5.30.01  8 PM

The Glide oracle is nearing completion.  We should have it up by the end of the weekend.  We're doing the final put together, then we'll test, all the usual.  It will be there off the Glide portal screen.

Example

5.24.01    Sergio Basbaum put three pieces up at the following link which we will be able to link to through the oracle program.  His descriptions are below.  As he put it, "Brazilian Tourists go to Taj Mahal."

The first one - Baião de Todos os Santos - is probably
my favorite composition in my first CD, which blends
some very Brazilian melody and chords with some ideas
on how to establish an improvisation environment. My
work is much more the one of the arranger and a guitar
solo that uses a lot of silences... well, I hope you
enjoy.

The second one - Cafuné - is also a "baiao" (a
Brazilian rhythm from the north-east of the country)
but there's no improvisation as part of the
composition, it's just a delicate melody arranged for
a certain group. I use to say that, as a guitarist,
it's a much bigger challenge to play delicate melodies
than to play aggressive heavy-metal solos... I feel you
have to show yourself to play a melody like that!

The third one - Rosa Margarida -  is a kind of
psychedelic, kind of acid-jazz style, influenced by
Bocato, a trombonist/composer with whom I've worked in
the 80's.

Email me with your uncensored feedback on the whole idea:  the good, the bad, and the ugly.  First I’d like to get a general feel for the response, plus any recommendations for the process, innovations, tweaks.  This is still in the fluid stage.  slattd@rpi.edu

Alex has created a form for entering your information.  It's at http://www.academy.rpi.edu/glide/oracle_participation/

Graphics:  the size of the area is 1010 x 400.  It’s a panoramic format that I’ve found very interesting to explore with AMPro.  .pct, .gif, jpg, .bmp all OK.  Anything that a shockwave application can recognize.

What about download time?

We are working around that by pre-loading both music and graphics (from any location) when the Glide oracle application is launched.  This should help.  Synchronicity isn’t linear.
