All very stimulating, but, truth be
told,
I'm learning about the language
primarily
by using the tools that Bill
Brubaker has been building for the project.
Glide language is teaching me about itself.
Also of great assistance
have been a
series of solo “meditative” sessions
that have thrown great light on
the language,
shaped the direction of the project,
and kept me
focused.

In the summer of 1999, I wrote the first draft of the
novel—approximately 200,000 words.
Throughout this time period, I’d
also been reading about visual language from many angles:
perceptual, philosophical, linguistic, semiotic, history of writing
technologies, visual intelligence and literacy, visual metaphors.
I found other visual languages such as Bliss
Symbolics, and The
Elephant’s Memory on the web.
The
novel's getting its final set of revisions. Then--find a publisher.
Bill, Daniel, and I planned the
next stages of the interactive web project:
applications, a re-launch of the website.
Production began early in 2001.
